| | Experience/History Monte got his start in the music world while still in college, playing keyboards and singing with the Minneapolis group Flyte Tyme. The band later formed the core of The Time, who along with Prince, were instrumental in defining the Minneapolis sound of the early 1980s. In 1984, after two years of heavy touring, Monte left the group to refocus his priorities. Soon he began the next phase of his career as a songwriter and producer, first in partnership with Terry Lewis and Jimmy Jam, and then on his own. Over the years, Monte has had the opportunity to work with many top-notch artists, including Janet Jackson, Deniece Williams, Junior, Deja, Mica Paris, St. Paul, and Alexander ONeal. Janet Jacksons The Pleasure Principle, from her Grammy-nominated Control CD, and Alexander ONeals If You Were Here Tonight are among the hits hes written and produced. Montes song All I Need was included in Deniece Williams From the Beginning CD, which was nominated for a Dove award in 1989. Six of his songs have been included on various artists best-of compilations. All told, Monte has received two platinum (1,000,000 copies sold) and seven gold (500,000 copies sold) awards for his work. | |
